About this deal

The first one being the art, this is probably the best drawn manga i have ever read, there is so much detail and it looks so realistic. You can clearly see the author put a lot of effort and did a lot of research regarding locations and fighting movements, in fact at the end of some chapters you get additional information on how they drew a specific scene. The fights are incredible well drawn and are very engaging, the shots of Seoul are incredible well done hell even the food is drawn with an incredible amount of detail. In several ocasions I have found myself hungry because of that. A special little addition i feel that should be mentioned is Boichi's inclusion of how hard he has worked on the manga. He talks about his travels to take lots of different pictures to use as references. I feel that it is a great touch as it gives us, the readers, insight as to how a mangaka goes about working on their art. It's a real treat to see the pictures he takes and comparing them to what he draws. A wonderful aspect of the manga that most certainly should not be over looked. Karma Houdini: Yan Taeshin, the manager Ken works with when he briefly works at an idol agency. See Easily Forgiven. Oh, Crap!: This goes through the mind of a lot of thugs when Ken finally gets serious or pissed, which ever happens first. It also happens when people end up out gambitted by Tae-Soo. high school delinquent as well as the main protagonist who leaves Japan in pursuit of his love, Yumin and drops out of school. While in Korea he lives his life as a shut in for a whole year being not able to locate a real occupation. After saving an old man from being killed by loan sharks, he was scouted and encouraged to join an area gang(gondal) to work under Taesoo as among his underlings. After fighting against Taesoo, he was offered the job of manager rather. He declined since he desired to join the police force alongside Yumin but Taesoo finally controls him into taking the position. His strength and awareness of justice earns him the devotion of the local community as well as his gang. Ken’s parents were killed over the course of a Yakuza war when he was 13. The character design of Ken is greatly impacted from Vash of Trigun Manga.

but prepare nonetheless. The main characters are all likeable, and I could see anyone being someones favourite. Ambition Is Evil: Many of the characters we see have ambitions beyond just being cruel sadists, but in striving for their goals of wealth and power, they often become just that, IF they already weren't like that to being with. Beauty Equals Goodness: Played straight with the corrupt and cruel politicians and gangsters. Interestingly, characters also become uglier when their personalities get nasty.Ken follows his high school crush Yumin from Japan to Korea (wut) where she starts working as a police officer. Ken on the other hand becomes a gang-boss and as the story progresses he works himself through the gritty world of organized crime, while staying I already described Ken with enough detail to cover everything but not spoil anything. His buddies are all pretty much introduced from the first volume and as the story continues, everyone but Ken actually undergo some pretty serious character development. What about Ken you ask? Well he does indeed undergo a good chunk of character development but you see, his character is already defined from the get-go. He acts as the foundation upon which the others grow and mature. To be honest, having the main protagonist undergo the "least" actual character development (as in their personality, etc etc and not their position in society) was a ballsy move that really paid off. We get this wonderful balance between the cast of characters. No single individual within this fictional world overshadows another so greatly that their existence (for as long as they are relevant and play a major role in the story) becomes this tertiary obstacle that simply gets stepped on and ignored. Oh and this manga has one of my top 5 favorite female characters sooo... i am kinda biased here :D Overall, this is a fun manga, but far from a masterpiece. whether you will enjoy it or not is a matter of perspective. if you want some cool stuff and not overthinking things like I used to do, not complicating, just enjoy this manga, then I recommend it. Bleached Underpants: Subverted completely! The guy doesn't hide the fact that he did porn, even in a fan AMA, he said he'd like to work at it again!

The protagonist is well done. He has a great journey from someone more innocent and oblivious to the violence of that country until he becomes a real gangster, but being one of those types of symbol of strength and charisma. Not only that, but it is amazing how he relates to the world of work, taking a position on complex issues such as war crime and the corruption of society. Ever wanted to be a gang leader? Well, Ken Kitano never wanted to become one, but meh... he did. Let teh comedy ensue. This sounds interesting isn't it? What can go wrong? Well, the story and the action part of this manga is pretty good. There are a lot of beatiful panels, and the story leading is also good. It can be always exciting. Almost the best thing in this manga is this is a seinen. The problem is the manga is trying to be very cool, and this has an impact of the action scenes, and some other more. The characters suddenly changes personality, and having unpredictable nature wich would be okay, if this would be once or twice in the whole series even without any racional explanation, but the writer do this every time. This is usually because the gang is just a status symbol. We just see how they raid buildings and after that we can read informations about the band's status, but we never see them. I didn't get what I expect to get. I thought this was gonna be an empire builder-like manga just like the overlord, but as I wrote before, the band is just a cover name for making a protagonist to symbolize a king of the underworld, whose to face you can only kneeling before him. Not gonna lie, these looks pretty awesome, but apart from that, this has no other function. It's like the One Piece crew, but the leader has more prestige... Protagonist starts out at ground zero in a foreign country and gradually builds his way to the top. You know that feeling when you're playing pokemon and you level up or evolve a pokemon? That's the feeling I get when I finish reading each volume because after each arc they just keep adding onto the gang empire as a whole, getting 1 step closer to their ultimate goal. high school delinquent as well as the main protagonist who leaves Japan in pursuit of his love, Yumin and drops out of school. The character design of Ken is greatly impacted from Vash of Trigun Manga. Boichi「サンケン」ユミンのグルメマンガ、17巻と同時発売. Comic Natalie (in Japanese). Natasha, Inc. November 26, 2012. Archived from the original on July 19, 2023 . Retrieved July 18, 2023. The amount of large themes introduced as potential main story points but then not explored enough are many. For example the concept of the state, the history of South Korea, immigration and xenophobia just to name a few. It's a bit sad that that these interesting themes were pushed aside to make space for naked women.

ACTION: The action is mediocre at the start, but when Boichi decided to write things better the action followed suit and became really quite good. Nothing outstanding but it isn't bad. That is, apart one of two fights with only women, which would be comical if it wasnt so badly written. a magnet, he has an almost supernatural aura of main character righteousness that he seemingly indoctrinates people into good morale by beating the shit out of them. Rather than this being deus ex however, its a plot device that is observed by other characters in the story. It also doesn't hurt that Ken is an extremely likeable character. He does not always win, and he does not always lose, he is not arrogant, but he respects himself and his gang and will beat the shit out of other gangs that challenge its pride of the street. As time goes on and his gang becomes more and more of an influence in Korea, Ken's character starts to change rather drastically as well. It's cool to read is the bottom line here. in Japanese). STORY: Kitano Ken's crush Yoshizawa Yumin, moves to Korea to become a police officer. Following her, Ken moves to Korea as well. However, he is a failure. He meets Park Tae-Soo, leader of a local gang. Tae-Soo tries to convince Ken to become their boss. Ken agrees on something really ridiculous. (Salary what?). So basically, a failure rises from the bottom of scum to the top of the country. So, in my opinion, story is a 9/10. Summary of review: Art is amazing(100/10). Characters are bland and 1 note. Near the ending the characters make uncharacteristic decisions which are then poorly explained. Aside from the last 2 arcs the manga itself is a fun read if your can turn your brain off. Action is decent as well. Good All Along: Ban-Phoung had always admired Ken and was trying to protect him from the White Dragon Clan.

Miss Yoo was brutally gang-raped and sexually abused by the Garugi after she was kidnapped by them. tldr: It can be really over the top with everything, mostly for the better except for the ecchi which (for me) is really uncomfortable with few exception. He moved to Japan in 2004 and stepped into the world of Japanese manga with Space Chef Caisar published in the monthly Comic Gum. Since then he has published many manga and one-shots.Food Porn: The author can go on complete tangents describing in incredible detail the food that the characters eat during the story. Describing the preparation of the ingredients, carefully detailing how it's all cooked while detailing how the various sauces and juices add to the taste and texture of the dish, finishing off by describing the delicious taste of the meal... I Want Feed Yumin, a shojo styled, somewhat suggestive yet SFW series of sidestories concentrating on a character that could very easily be replaced by the reader taking Yumin out on dates to various Korean restaurants. Much attention is paid to ridiculously detailed descriptions of Korean Food Porn and how freakin' cute Yumin is.
