About this deal

Dice: D6’s are the lifeblood of any 40K game. 12 are acceptable, but you’ll want at least 24, eventually. There is an irresponsible amount of dice to drool over at Chessex and Games Workshop.

As a Starting Thousand Sons player, you want all of these models in your army, and the savings on this box are pretty great. One of these is a fantastic near must-buy for someone who wants to start their own Thousand sons army. The big downside is that because Ahriman is a named character, you don’t really want more than one of these. Though the box savings more than offset Ahriman’s cost, and if you can convert your second copy of him into a regular sorcerer, it’s worth it to buy two so you can make a battalion, and of course there’s the fringe use of having one version of him on foot and another on the disk. Kraken improves the overall speed with its strong unique psychic power, Relic, and Stratagem. Competitively it is the second most popular Hive Fleet. For a horde army, this is just a fabulous boon for getting better board coverage and claiming objectives early. That said, a horde army is likely the only times you’re going to see a Tervigon on the table, as it is intrinsically tied to Termagants in large numbers. Other lists are certainly going to find it helpful, but you’ve got a ton of your list tied up in a Tervigon without supporting bugs and what is it doing for you. A for horde lists, C+ for non-horde Psychic Augmentation (NEUROTHROPE)Only one HIVE TYRANT can be included in each HIVE TENDRIL detachment in your army. If your army contains one or more HIVE TYRANT models, one of them must be selected as your WARLORD . Contents: 1 Terminator Captain (HQ), 10 Tactical Marines (Troops), 1 Venerable Dreadnought (Elites) A good boost to mid-range shooting, especially if re-rolls are involved to fish for better results. Best applied to mass gunline fire mid-game, so if you’re mostly concerned with long range or melee this may not be so helpful. B Predatory Guile (BROODLORD) Warlord Trait: Monstrous Hunger – An unmodified roll of 6 to wound inflicts a mortal wound in addition to normal damage. It’s not terrible, but the potential damage output from this is minimal compared to the survivability/utility you can get from the other options. C

Behemoth offers a powerful punch for those players that prefer close combat and competitively the fleet sits at the third most popular. Kraken The rules: The basic ruleset is 100% free. But what about that hefty tome you may have stumbled across? It’s mostly stories, pictures, and flavor text. It does contain some more advanced rules, but they’re not required to start. Brushes: at least three—a small layer brush, a medium layer brush, and a medium basecoat brush. Stay away from bargain brands. They’ll only betray you.Psychic Power: Poisonous Influence (WC 7) – One unit in Synaptic Link range causes 6s to wound in melee to inflict an additional mortal wound (up to 6). If you’re going the horde route ( which for Gorgon is not a bad choice), this is a great power to drag down larger targets in a sea of shrieking bugs. Loses its best targets as your army starts getting whittled down, but definitely a nice option to have. B+

Kraken was the second Hive Fleet that humanity encountered, ultimately being responsible for the Second Tyrannic War. Kraken Tyranids are known for their speed, moving faster than believed possible to strike behind enemy lines. The Shrouding Spores ability offered by Venomthropes and Forgeworld Malanthropes are a strong defensive option and we recommend it highly. Venomthropes are more generally available as standard kits, but they’re easier to target and destroy than Malanthropes. You’ll see Malanthropes fielded in a lot of competitive lists for this and other reasons but know that using one implies you’re shelling out for the specialty model and the Imperial Armour Compendium rulebook which increases your army cost a good deal.

Overview: The Tyranids are probably the weirdest life form going in the Warhammer 40K universe—and they've got the looks to prove it. Acting as an organic and grotesque horde in almost all ways, they travel through the universe identifying prey planets that they can strip of bio- and living-matter from top to bottom, leaving behind only a stony husk of what was there before. They have strength in numbers and strangely-evolved organisms that know no fear or any other concept apart from conquering and devour. Troop: 5x Tyranid Warrior (5x Boneswords, 4x Deathspitter, 1x Venom Cannon, Adaptive Physiology: Enhanced Resistance) Ripper Swarms have negligible offensive power, very little survivability, and no objective control, but they have two useful abilities. Their ability to Deep Strike allows them to pop up almost anywhere on the table, whilethe unique Aura Ability ‘Chitinous Horrors’ halves the Objective Control value of enemies within engagement range. They’re a useful nuisance that allows other units to steal objectives from your opponents.
