Nice guy Johnny (Kevin McKidd) marries pregnant near-stranger Catriona (Michelle Gomez), who starts a tawdry affair with their upstairs neighbor (Gary McCormack).Boab (Stephen McCole) is kicked off his football team and out of his parents' home, loses both his job and his girlfriend and finally meets God (Maurice Roëves) in a squalid pub. The Granton Star Cause features (fat) Boab, a down on his luck twenty something who loses his place on the football team, his girlfriend and his house in quick succession. The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs (2006), deals with a young, alcoholic civil servant who finds himself inadvertently putting a curse on his nemesis, a nerdy co-worker. Given Welsh's imagination and penchant for depraved characters, decadent circumstances, and just plain rotten motives and outcomes, the result is a creepy movie with totally grotesque content.

The small things like the graffiti and the bigger aspects such as the characters all had there contribution. Visually, The Acid House is very similar to Trainspotting but it also blurs the boundary between realism and surrealism in the same fashion Trainspotting did. In spite of this, director Paul McGuigan, superbly brings Welsh's other two stories to life and it's surely praise indeed when one can exclude a full third of a movie and still class it as one of their all time favourites.Instead this is a few minutes of the film and it builds to a rather crude conclusion featuring graphic sexual acts and scenes of excrement and bodily functions. The second film (The Soft Touch 10/10) is a top-notch drama that, for me at least, hit close to home.
